In 2006, the Holly & Bronco Mendenhall Foundation started a program at Brigham Young University (BYU) called Thursday’s Heroes. The purpose of this program was to honor children and families who were facing significant life challenges.
The Mendenhall’s, along with the BYU football program, would arrange for the families to attend the Thursday football practice prior to every game. After the practice the team would present the family with gifts and autographed memorabilia as a token of appreciation for the strength they had proven in adversity. The family would then join the team meal and walk through on Friday, and would be honored at the football game. Additionally, they would be given access to the football team locker room prior to the game. Since 2006 there have been more than 90 such heroes honored by the foundation.
